300, Different Writing

Over 300 unique visits as of today. Hooray! I don't think that I've had any cool foreign visitors lately as I haven't been religiously checking the stat counter like I used to, however, I get a sick sort of ego boost from realizing that people have checked out my speck of the Internet 300 times.

I have a paper due in my Textual Studies class tomorrow. I haven't started it yet. It has a fairly creative component to it in that we have to decide how to market a specific work. We can describe target audiences, describe the materials, the whole thing. It should be fun for a change. I hate writing bland scholarly-type research papers. It is just so limiting and boring. If true scholars were writing research papers, I would think that they would be less boring.

Update: 15 visits from Louisville, Kentucky (my friend Andrew HH?); 9 from Overland Park, KS; 9 from St. Paul, Minnesota; 5 from Denver, Colorado; 4 from Scottsbluff (Chelsea); 3 from Lawrence, Kansas (Megan); 3 from an anonymous town in Missouri; and 1 from Holland, Michigan. Identify yourselves or the terrorists win!

The five from Minnesota are probably mine, I spent Easter weekend there developing a pretty good understanding of what Hell will be like when I get there (unless Hell is satisfied and illuminates its' vacancy sign)....oh my god that was bad. sorry.

Hey Bret when will you help me install this stat counter? I've tried it at least eight different ways and none seem to work.

Um, telephone? "Hey Bret, this is Megan, what are you doing right now?" "Nothing, as usual." "Cool, well, I'm at campus and was wondering if you could help me install that stat counter." "Yeah, I suppose I could do that. I'll be over in 5-10 minutes." "Neat, I'll be in the library computer lab." "Ok bye."

Neat, Bret, totally rad. I'll use that hip new gadget called the telephone and call you straight away.

Bret, you and me both...I suck at research papers too. I hate them, actually. Sometimes, I just decide not to do them, and end up failing a class (but that only happened once). For some reason, I have slipped into a habit of only doing things that I like to do. I try to avoid any unnecessary tension and strife. I'm just trying to live good!

Now, I am reminded by some people that I need to do the things that I don't want to, because it will make me stronger blah blah blah! It's all bullshit! It won't make you stronger at all! It will rot your mind, and drain you of important resources, use up your energy and valuable stores of creativity and maybe something fantastic!

Here's how I see it...if you do things that you do not want to do, there will be negative-ness in your life. Oh, sure, a little won't hurt you, but when you add it all up, it brings you down. It's like cancer...oh what, doctor? One cancer cell is fine? What, it will spread to other cells and eventually kill me? Okay...that's fine with me.

No, it isn't fine with me. Fuck that shit!

But, if you do things that are enjoyable, then everyday will be good. And these days will add up fast, happiness will be spread throughout your life, and you will always be able to smile. That's what I do.

Sometimes, you have to skip class and go sit in a park. Sometimes, you have to decided not to do an assignment and take time to converse with someone meaningful. Happiness, my friends, is the goal. Because if you are not enjoying yourself, what is the point of anything?

why is Charles brilliant? Between the comment above and the one he left on my blog, I think a clear case has been made for Charles being brilliant.
